Tell me about I-90 from Billlings westbound. We want to drive it to Seattle next summer, but my youngest daughter hates roads through mountains with steep drop-offs. (Yes, I've tried counselling and even hypnosis for her fear of heights!) What is that highway like?

I traveled this road in 2003 and don't remember any drop-offs at all. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for the GPS I was using in my motorhome, I would not have know when we crossed the continental divide.

The roadway is heavily forested that seeing the heights is a problem. We also had lot's of smoke from the forest fires. Our travel time was mid-August. There was an area, near the divide that was rocky, but not a steep drop-off.

Possibly a portable DVD player would keep your daughter occupied. Believe me, I drive a 35' motorhome, have vertigo and the roads did not bother me. What did bother me was driving the West side of Crater Lake in my motorhome.

There are some steep mountains west of Billings on 90. The drop offs are west of Bozeman but it is beautiful country. It is nothing compared to some highways in CA or CO but there is still some sheer from the road to mountain floor. Good luck.

Interstates usually are built to avoid more than a 5 percent grade.. Therefore, you shouldn't have any problems as long as you stay on the main road. I haven't done that road specifically, but I can't say I've been on an Interstate that's truly frightening.

Now, some roads in Hawaii, Colorado ... that's a different story. But they aren't Interstates.
