Most of the cultivated fields in California are heavily irrigated. Over the years, most of the imported water has evaporated from the soil leaving behind solutes. So what problems this will cause to plants. Please answer if you know the answer, I have a quiz tomorrow. Thank you.

The solutes left behind in the soil as irrigation water evaporates makes the soil water hypertonic for the plants. A higher concentration of solutes means there is a lower concentration of water. Therefore, more water will diffuse out of the plant cells into the soil than the amount of water that diffuses into the plant cells. The cell contents lose water and shrink.
