I have been running my business for quite some time but things are tight now and the companies I owe are threatening me with jail like I'm a criminal. Is there any truth to this?

They can sue you and if they get a judgement can seize your assets, but can't put you in jail.

hmm they can do collections, judgments, garnishments, freezing assets?
I do recall seeing a while back something on 20/20 or some show like that collection agency's calling to collect debts using all sorts of threatening means to get debtors to pay.

I don't know about jail unless you were doing something illegal. Talk to an attorney.

They can't send you to jail for having debts. They can sue you as a business and because you are the owner, as an individual as well.

Maybe you should consult a lawyer about possibly filing for bankruptcy if it's getting that bad.

They can send you to collections but I do not believe they can send you to jail unless something was fraudulant about the Purchase Orders...You need to tell them you are in the process of filing Bankruptcy and then they have to leave you alone...it is harrassment then on their part...maybe it will give you enough time to get your finances back on track and pay them off...

You can only go to jail if you are arrested.
You can only be arrested if you break the law.
It is not illegal to not pay a bill. It will give you bad credit and small claims court but it is not illegal.
It is illegal to pass rubber. That's larceny.

I GUESS , BUT YOUR NOT A CRIMINAL! MAYBE THEY CAN JUST BUT YOU OUT OF BUSINESS INSTEAD OF JAIL. BUT ITS NOT LIKE IDENTITY THEFT OR ANYTHING SO I THINK THE MIGHT BE USING JAIL OR PRISON AS A EXCUSE .
