What are the effects on cells when they are placed in a hypotonic solution, a hypertonic solution, and an isotonic solution?

Hypotonic - the cell swells up (think hy OOO tonic)
Hypertonic - the cell shrinks (think shrrrrrink, hyperrrrrrtonic)
Isotonic - the cell stays the same (think iSotonic, Same)

animal cell

hypertonic- cell shrinks its called crenated
hypotonic- cell explodes - lysis
isotnic- its all gud :)

plant cell
hypertonic - shrivels - plasmolyzed
hypotonic- swelled up stands straight [ this helps the plant stay erect] turgid
isotonic - wilted
