I grew up in an abusive alcoholic home and carried the effects of it through out my life. The difference now is that I am able to get the help now as an adult that was never given to me as a child and able to be the example of what a good parent is suppose to be to my own children and grandchildren.

I have many bad I could share, but won't. One good memory was the day my newborn brother came home from the hospital. They put him carefully into my 4 year old arms that had waited so patiently for his arrival and I scooped him close as if I had been doing this all my life. I whispered" Hi, I'm your big sister and I'm gonna love you always". You are now the only other people that know I said that to him! And I do and will love him always. ( I am now 45 and he is 41 and one of the most special people in my life)

Many good and a few bad memories. Some of the answers you recieved are very sad. I feel bad for people that have had to live with the effects of horrible childhoods! Thanks for a good question!

My father was a horrible a$$hole to my mother. I told myself i'd never let someone treat me that way and i haven't so far. I guess it has affected me in a good way as an adult.

Well, I'm only 13, but I'm pretty sure it'll be my parent's divorce when I was 9. Just thinking that my mom's happiness was more important to her than mine and my two sisters has really screwed me up already, just think how it'll be in 7 years.

some good, maybe a little more bad. but that bad stuff gets heavy, so i try to remember the good. like the time my brother got a toilet lid stuck on his head pretending he was king. although he may not think so, 'that' was funny.
thanks, ginny, for the good memory.
