The short answer based on our current understanding is that testosterone kills, and estrogen prolongs life...at least in their respective sexes.

Also, far more men smoke than women, which actually is thought to account for most of the difference; but because in many countries, this difference in smoking has been decreasing, the respective difference in life expectancy has also decreased.

That is a multi-faceted question, that has many answers and reasons for being true. One of the biggest reasons is that women show their emotions. Women cry, and that tends to release tensions that other wise cause physiological problems for men.
