What happens during G1?

G1 is the first part if interphase. It stands for Gap One. Interphase is the first part of the cell cycle, but interphase is not a stage of mitosis.

G1 is when the cell grows by adding cytoplasm and organelles. It also carries on all the normal activities of a cell: making proteins and other molecules, etc. This is the normal life of a cell. Some cells spend their entire lives in G1.
