"Article 11. As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, - as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen [Muslims], - and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan [Muslim] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interuption of the harmony existing between the two countries." The treaty was passed unanimously in the Senate after being read aloud. HOW then can Christians STILL insist that this is a "Christian Nation" when even early Founders like George Washington (who began the negotiations) and John Adams (under whom it was signed) agreed with the language of the above Treaty?!? WHY was there no uproar from Congress over the "Unchristian" tone of the Treaty - unless they knew FULL WELL that the United States was NOT founded on Christianity???

Our country was founded on the principles of the enlightenment and the rights of free men (and women) to make their own minds up about their own lives not on Christianity.
IT WAS THE ENLIGHTENMENT PEOPLE, NOT CHRISTIANITY.

It is a fact that can never be changed the USA was founded on Christian values and the American people should pursue to return to that fold, however, it was clear that there is no official religion to be declared, so other faiths are free to expand and exist as long as they are peaceful and legal.

That is quite remarkable. Even more so since the war between the U.S. and Tripoli was between 1801 and 1805. That sort of makes it impossible for the U.S. Senate, in 1797, to approve a treaty of peace between the U.S. and a nation which the U.S. had yet to fight!

I completely reject Christianity and see no justification to the claim that the US is a Christian nation. As to what people claim the founding fathers meant, if we were going to have a thocracy we would have had one by now.
