There are about 70 different color variations of domesticated mice, including the popular albino ones most commonly seen in labs and pet shops. Regardless of what color they are, they are all members of the same family and are descended from the ordinary house mouse. Mice are naturally prolific, and a person keeping more than one as pets may soon find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer number of mice that a healthy breeding pair can produce. Mice can usually start having babies about two months after they’re born.

If you have one male mouse and one or two fertile females, it’s possible that after... SIX MONTHS... you may find yourself responsible for almost.... 100 MICE! ....
(so u don't have to worried of what type of mice to keep in order to have many many babies ...i have kept mice before..and i know from exprience...i keep a pair..and i ended with 236 within 9 months...!!! )
That’s assuming that each female gives birth to a healthy litter of eight. If all you want to do is enjoy the pet mice you have, get one or more females. More than one male in a cage will have them fighting for territory. If you do intend to breed your pet mice, include some sort of box or container in the enclosure where each mom-to-be can have some privacy, and some nesting material in the form of cotton, shredded newspaper, or strips of cloth.

When you notice one or more of your mice gaining weight and tearing at the nesting material that means they’re going to have babies. You can probably separate the male mouse from the females at this point since right now his antics may just stress the females unnecessarily. Also, if any of the babies are male, he may attack them as they grow older. Make sure to give the expectant mothers plenty of peace and privacy or they may injure their own babies from the stress.

(as for the above info.. i don't really agreed with separate the male...because my male mice helps to look after their babies when they are born..i never separate any of them..and that's why i ended with 2 hundred over within a short period..
but one thing for sure is that " U MUST LEAVE THEM ALONE AND NEVER TOUCH THE BABIES BEFORE THEY ARE BIG ENOUGH...OR ELSE THEY WILL EAT THEIR BABIES IF THEY SMELL DIFFERENT..OR ODD.." )
its take approx. +- 2 weeks each..for the babies to...
1. babies change colour from pink to which ever colour it gonna be when they grown up.
2. fur appear... they may starts to wonder around with its eyes close...when their parents carried them back into their nest..they may squerk a little...but not to worried..they are not hurting them...just leave them alone...(try to handle only one of them and see if he gets eaten because if u wait until its eyes open...they might bite u..but that must be at least 5 week after its birth. )
3. eyes open and they starts running about...that is when u should starts handle them with your hand..so that they will get use to it...(some might not learn how to bite yet so that's the best time to start using your hand..they might be scared since its the first time but they will eventually get used to it.)

Once the babies are born, the mommies know what to do and soon you may have a veritable mouse factory going on since a female mouse is ready, willing and able to mate again within a day of giving birth! Good luck.

MOUSE - the common name generally but imprecisely applied to rodents found throughout the world with bodies less than about 12 cm (5 inches) long. In a scientific context, mouse refers to any of the 38 species in the genus Mus, which is the Latin word for mouse. The word "mouse" comes from a 4,000 year old word 'mush' which means 'to steal' Most mice produce 5- 10 babies. But some litters can be as big as 16 pinkies!

I read on a snake breeder's forum that lab mice are specifically bred to have large litters. They said that it's best to buy from an individual or lab that has breeding records to verify that the litters are large. Some unscrupulous dealers sell pet shop mice as lab mice.

I don't know a ton...my boss would. He did his post doc at Jackson Laboratories. We have a transgenic black 6 mouse that had 20-something pups, but that's unusual for the breed. Normally we see 6-10 in them.
