I like them. I observe them closely so that I can understand how they learn, what they might grow up to be and how they might change the world. I have concerns for them, especially their lack of languages and solid math and science skills, which they will need to compete for jobs in the emerging global job market. And, I am concerned about their degree of abstraction. By degree of abstraction, I mean the amount of time they spend doing abstracted thinking (video games, Internet, television, cell-phone communication, film, listening to music) compared to the amount of time they spend doing reality-based cognition (exploring real nature, getting splinters, building a radio from scratch, making things with their hands, learning how to use a sextant or a telescope, etc.). Reality-based activities lay down more important neuropathways in our brains than do vicarious abstraction activities. Too much abstraction weakens us as individuals. And, too much abstraction weakens us as a society. We need engineers and problem-solvers with critical thinking skills that hale from reality-based cognitive development. Teenagers today seem to me to be in danger of being exploited, especially as consumers, even at the expense of their own mental health, just used like toilet paper and discarded. The sharks are circling this young and abstracted generation of passive thinkers, I believe.

There is no such thing as teenagers of the past, present or future but are just them.Except for the apparent changes like dress, language, some social norms and tech-savvying,they are no different than they ever were.Their tragedy is that they get assessed by the yard stick which they don't know and is available only to the elder generation, who in turn have made themselves the sole prosecutors and judges.Unfair by ethics of any civilized society.Just imagine, teenagers of the eighties are running the world now and are they doing the worst?if not, then after about a decade or two, these very teenagers shall be running the affairs of this world.I think, they shall do a better job (as they must for at least historical reasons,if not more).I am sure, the future of the world is safe in their hands and minor irritants be given a go by.

I look at my son's friends and I instantly get suspicious. For a simple reason, I couldn't be trusted as a teenager. Turns out he and his friends are on the up and up most of the time. Kids will be kids, they wouldn't be any fun if they weren't.

Over all, from what I have seen, they are leaving my generation in the dust, and that is exactly how it is supposed to work.

I don't like modern day teenagers, and I am one. Aside from my friends and myself, which would be that majority of teenagers, they're all spoiled, bratty, petty, and superficial. The majority of them only care about sex, drugs, and rock and roll(though most of them it's actually rap, not rock and roll, though i see no reason why anyone would like that "music") SOME of us are hardworking and determined to get ourselves set up to live the way we want when we're adults, but MOST of us seem to be setting ourselves up to be trailer trash

Most of the teenagers I meet are very goal oriented, hard working, polite, friendly, and caring people. More so than I was when I was their age.

I just want to smack the teenage daughter whenever I see that bratty look on their face. I know their parents want to.
