My children were playing in the backyard when I noticed the smell of gasoline. I imediatly went outside to find that the two older girls (3 and 4) were pouring gasoline out of the gas can to the lawn mower. They had gotten it on themselves and on my grass. I put the girls in the bath and now I'm worried that the dog steped in it too. What I need to know is 1- will the gas ignite under my dryer vent and 2- how do I clean it out of the grass for the dog 3- is my dog safe in the backyard while the gasoline is still fresh (he loves being outside). Only serious advise please.

every thing should be OK, the gas will evaporate fast , no it will not ignite unless you have a gas dryer, then that may cause a problem but don't think so, the heat from dryer vent will help dissipate the gas even faster, , it might kill the grass,

The gas, which is a pet-ether, evaporates in minutes. The smell left behind is basicly non-flammable. The dog is safe; and you only need to give the kids a bath. Gasoline was used as a cleaning agent, as in dry-cleaning, when it was discovered that it had the correct explosive properties to power internal combustion engines.

The biggest concern with gasoline is its explosiveness, and ease of ignition.

So, the crisis is past, and the future should not see the children playing with gas. Good luck

wash the clothes with cold water and baking soda. repeat, than hang dry. after that they can be washed reg and dried reg. on the ground, poor kitty litter or laundry soap where the spill was. let sit for over night, scoop up with a shovel and deposit in an outside trash receptacle.
