I want a bearded dragon and my dad doesnt. He wants me to get a corn snake. I like corn snakes but i think lizards are equally fun and cool. He doesnt want me to get a BD because of the diet. He thinks that it is too much trouble. He does not like the idea of a mix of fresh chopped veggies with crickets that also have calcium on them. Is he right? I keep seeing the BD as a beginner reptile but it seems hard? What do you think? I think they seem fun and energetic....

yeah they actually are great beginner pets they don't get sick easily and are really friendly they can be handled very easily and will become much tamer than a corn snake and they are more fun. A corn snake can be a bit nippy and they can have trouble eating and be picky eaters. And yeah there is a type of pellets i'm not entirely sure they are what you want but they are dragon pellets made by exo terra. over al i think a bd would be a much better choice good luck!

I just got a BD 8 months ago and I do not regret it one bit. I am a furry kind of animal person but since I got my BD I can't imagine my life with him. The initial setup could be costly (but I bought a lot of extras to spoil him) but once that is done the maintenance is pretty simple. I always have fresh fruits and veggies at home anyway so chopping them up is no big deal and it only cost .99 for a dozen crickets. I would say get the BD. Mine also loves to be held and to sit on your lap or shoulder.
Good luck!

They're not "hard" but they are reptiles and if you want them to thrive then a few basics must be met. The first is a complete diet--that means insects and caring well for the insects--there's just no getting around that. And a fresh salad every day is a must! They need very large tanks (mine is in a 75L), UVB bulbs changed every 6 months (up to $25.00 a bulb) and regular bathing/misting. They are cool and friendly reptiles, but you have to be willing to meet their specific needs.
Corn snakes are much simpler, fun to handle and feed (best to use frozen prey--thawing is easy--just read up about it). Corns will hide all day and be more active at night. Most people get them for the cool colors and interesting patterns they come in. They are very sweet natured and are rarely nippy.

Bearded dragons are docile creatures and omnivores, which means they are low maitanance they can eat just about everything, As they grow though they eventually become vegeterians. They eat lots of crickets and a variety of worms.
No problems for me and I have 14 B.Ds I make it look easy.
No snakes, because I kinda like to shop for veggies and other appetizing entrees. With a snake it's only one mouse please.. after that you feed it then there's no love no money no thrill anymore, A Bearded Dragon won't bite won't slithher out etc... and my mom won't let me have one: )

i have two beared dragons and two corn snakes....
snakes sleep in the day...so if you want a active reptile get the beared dragons b/c they sleep at night.....BUT beared dragons are mre expensive that scorn snakes .....they need a higher wattage buld more space and lots of crikets.....FOR MOST beared dragons if the food doesn't move they wont eated......DO some research first b/c all reptile do require time to feed/clean cage..etc....
