a family friend is asking for your financial help. and it's a huge amount that will take him months or a year to pay.

As far as I know that the call for help is true.

A friend borrowed money for his kids tuition after he lost in a casino. Thinking that I would hate to see the kids (one is my godson) out of school, I helped, and warned him that was to be the last. Next time he was borrowing, he gave an alibi, but checking with friends revealed he just lost big. I told him I do not help people who do not help themselves. He pleaded, saying that his Japanese boss will fire him if he is unable to produce the money entrusted to him ( an onion-export business), he will be fired. I did not help, and he was fired. I did not AT ALL feel guilty.

Last week, he came to say he has found a new job, but needed P15,000 to tide the family over until his pay comes. I helped, but made sure the money was to be used for the family's expenses. I deposited the money to his wife's bank account.

I do it for strangers that I have never met before, why wouldn't I do it for my real and true friends?
If it is within my financial reach then I would do it with eyes closed. If not, then by all means I will find a way to do it or at least ease the pain.
Real and true friends are hard to come by, so hold on the ones you have now.

a big amount for his wife and kids??? he must work to earn for their living. It's at your own risk... but giving him a "big amount" is not a practical way of helping a friend. Unless, you let him sign a promissory note so just in case things will not work out properly, you'll have an evidence on his debts
