Personally, the ACLU scares me more. Any organization who supports the people they do - Pedophiles, murderers...
In a perfect society I wish there were no extremists in either party, but that will never happen. It seems it comes down to the lesser of two evils.

Megan W, while I may not be on complete agreement I thank you for your response. You argued you point in a non confrontational way. I have my views and you have yours..You spoke in a way that was respectful to both. I thank you deeply for that. Many people would rather rant and what will ever be the resolution in that?
I am a mother...I have strong feelings about the ACLU for my own reasons. I know there is more to it than NAMBLA, but I can't support them. In my question I did say I disliked any extreme. Hopefully, those of you who told me to get educated will learn to read the entire question. Again, thank you Megan.

Pedophiles, murderers...
In a perfect society? What perfect society?
Conservative Christians? They condemn through generalities, hmn, Sounds like something Hitler used to control the masses. Ask the Jewish community about Generalities. Racist jokes are based on generalities.
The ACLU sees the problem and tries to find Justus for the wrongly accused. Pedophiles, murderers... can you name any other people that need help more. There's no cure-all
The ACLU does more than generalize and condemn.
I'll take the ACLU over Conservative Christians.

The ACLU protects civil liberties, that's all. In the case of nambla, the ACLU did not in any way condone what they were about, but they fought for their right, under American law, to appeal. Who are the murderers they supposedly supported?

I also know that the ACLU protects people that you never hear about. In my state a man was being fined and hassled by code inspectors, because he had covered his house with religious sayings, bible verses, etc. The local ACLU fought for him and won, protecting his civil liberty to paint his own home how he wanted. I don't call this extremist.

In the same way as an attorney represents a murderer, even if he knows for sure his client is the murderer, the ACLU protects, not necessarily supports, Americans' civil rights.

With rhetoric as demagogic as that, i've got gotta say that I prefer the ACLU might petition the courts to strike down the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the honest Housing Act of 'sixty 8, as a results of fact the ordinary impetus for passing those regulations replaced right into a liberal preacher by using the call of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and that i'm adamantly against any preacher imposing their non secular perspectives on me. that's a violation of the corporation Clause. Am I impressive? Huh? You hypocritical sob, are you going to declare that liberal preachers like King and the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton are threats the separation of church and state?

You shouldn't be scared of the ACLU. All they do is try to uphold the Constitution. Sometimes this isn't the most popular thing to do. I don't always like their views, but I realize they have a place. I don't think the ACLU necessarily supports pedophiles and murderers. However they do support the constitutional rights of all. I like the Conservative Christians. They have and support good moral values. The problem I see with the Conservative Christians is that sometimes they want to infringe on my Constitutional rights. This scares me more.

In the old days the ACLU protected constitutional rights down the line. Now they have gone off the deep end and espouse very strange ideas. They no longer give a hoot about the constitution. It has become a matter of raking in the money now.

Riiiiiiight! anyone who doesn't believe in extremism wouldn't be parroting such a right-wing extremist view.
Just another extremist trying to PLAY "fair and balanced"!

Personally, I don't agree at all with the type of things NAMBLA cries about, and think they should be exe3cuted for touching little boys, but I do support their right to cry about it, especially when their freedom to do so, involves them posting pictures of themselves on the www so the rest of us know who the sickos are.

And all the terrorists that hate us for our freedom, completely agree with your views of the ACLU.
I'm sure NAMBLA is exactly who your are referring to when you say "Pedophiles". Just so I don't leave you completely unimformed, they were defending the Pedophiles' freedom of speech, nothing more.
Maybe you should just sit back, and think about a society where there is no one to defend the freedom of speech, and then maybe you might actually be able to find a logical view about someone who does.

I'd think twice about that

The Christian Right's not so pious record:
Ralph Reed turned a blind eye to slavery in the CNMI
Supported Bush
Going along with Bush in his quest to invade Iraq
Ties to Jack Abramoff
Supported the contras and Efrain Rios Montt, the former dictator of Guatemala

The supporters of "Pedophiles, murderers" can be found in groups other than the ACLU.

Hitler would have been proud to hear one of his loyal german serfs state that exact same thing. I bet the Jews who went up in smoke, wished they would have had an ACLU to protect their rights.

Anyone who thinks the ACLU is a threat, by standing up for the Constitutional rights granted to all people, does not understand what freedom is, and can't possibly claim to be informed enough to be an American patriot.

Why don't you just come out and say what you really mean; "If you don't agree with what someone says or does, the act should be banned." Slightly fascist point of view, but your view all the same, and I respect your right to hold it, even though I'll never lie down so you can see your dream be reality in America.
