Transferring from a community college?

Question

I am currently a freshman at a community college and plan on transferring to either; Illinois State University, University of Illinois Champaign, or University of Illinois at Chicago, and had a few questions.

Both UIC and ISU say 24 completed hours at the time of the application, well what if I have 13, but plan on taking 16 next semester? Do I have to wait and apply the following fall, or? My GPA is currently a 3.5 and plan on keeping it that way.

I just basically wanted to know even though it says completed should I even consider applying for next fall?

I would call the admissions office and ask, but I suspect that as long as you are enrolled for enough hours to qualify when you apply they should consider you.

Seems like an odd requirement to me, they'd accept you if you had zero hours, why not if you have 14 or 28 or 92???

Applying early is a good idea because it beats some early deadlines for scholarships.

But note that, as John Ciardi said, the definition of university is "college that quit caring about students". If they have ridiculous rules about CC transfer applicants, then you can anticipate even more clown circus when you enroll. Consider it a warning sign and look for a university that is more concerned with making your access straightforward and your studies productive.

If you don't have the hours at UIC, you'll just have to apply as a new student. At UIC, new students can only apply for the fall semester. UIC and UIUC's transfer requirements are pretty similar to each other.

i think you should because thats what im doing! i have 13 hours right now and the university im applying to wants 24 hours too. if we apply now, all we have to do is send in our final transcripts when our academic year is over and then wait to see i we're accepted! hope that helps!

i think you can still apply but you would apply as in an incoming freshman rather than applying as a transfer student.
