My mother, husband's mother and my foster mother did it. Husband and I couldn't stand the taste and wouldn't drink it.

Oh, gag, yes! And watered down condensed milk. What was she thinking?! And ice milk, like that could fool anybody into thinking they were eating ice cream! Shudder!!!

In an effort to save money. My mother used to mix whole milk with powdered milk. It tasted awful. What a waste of whole milk but we all (4) drank milk three meals a day. We never really got used to the powdered milk aftertaste but if it was chilled enough we could stand it. Soft drinks or any other beverage was an extreme rarity in our house. My mom was from the old school that thought only milk was good for you and anything else like soft drinks were not. In the summer we might have Kool-aid or homemade root beer with lunch but that was about as far away from milk we ever got in her house.

I don't remember my mother doing it, but I did it to my children and the kids in my daycare. If I added it to an equal half of whole or 2% milk and did it after they were asleep at night, they often didn't notice a difference in the taste. But Heaven forbid if they suspected. They usually did so when I tried to save more money and mix in more of the powdered milk and water than whole milk.

Many a time we had to drink powdered milk. I even remember the brand name it was called Milkman. You could reduce the water a little bit and it would be a richer milk, not as watery.

We grew up on Carnation powdered milk. My mom would put half milk and half powdered milk and swear up and down it was pure milk, but nothing in this world tastes like powdered milk and we weren't fooled, but we had to drink it or have nothing to drink.

yep my mother did that.. We all hated it, even my dad. He convinced her to mix it half and half with the whole milk.. It still tasted pretty weak but better than before. And to think now days thats called I think our 2 % or 1 %. Which I love.

My parents never did, but I did. I actually like the taste when it's in a big glass with ice cubes. I just told my son that if we spent less on powdered milk, we could buy more of his favorite cereal or cookies to eat with it. I never made him drink it by itself, so he didn't mind having it in his cereal or to dip Oreos in.

Naturally how else could my mother and grandmother keep 5 kids in milk. They did advance to using half and half but it was still watery but much better than nothing.

My mom not only did it when we were growing up, but still does it today. But she don't try to past it on as milk out of the store at all.

I use it my self even now that I live alone. Personally we liked it then and I still like it today. I like it plain or in something.
