I recently had one stolen and I don't have my serial number. Would they be able to look it up with my receipt?

Only recently has microsoft been communicating with the point of sale registers to track and record xbox purchases. It depends on when you bought it. Most major chains can look up a transaction with a receipt. If you go into the store to ask, remember you will get more bees with vinegar
(or is it honey? I can never remember)

There is a very good chance that they do. I know a couple years back I bought a PS2 from Wal-Mart and it went bad a few days later. Wal-Mart didnt even ask for the reciept when they returned it they got all the information from the Serial Number.

I think they enter it and the time of the purchase this helps track the warranty information on it.

Now this may only be for PS2 but I would imagine that XBOX would follow the same guidelines.

In the future the best thing you can do is take the case off and engrave a set of numbers or your name on the inside of the system. That way if it is stolen you can track it that way. You can alos purchase the type of ink that Bars and Amusement park use to tag your hand and only shows under a blacklight.

Sorry about your loss man. It is one of the worst things to happen in life when someone who dosent want to work for something will take something from somone who does.
