God is love.
Just read most any posting by athiests and anti-christians and see that without God there is no love and respect of those they disagree with.

It doesn't matter if you like or don't like any person -- when it comes to law, It's about not violating the rights of others. People are responsible for their own behavior, and forgiveness is a useful tool for anyone, not merely people with your religious beliefs. Being a non-Christian does not exclude someone from being a moral or compassionate person. I have doubts that your belief helps you to love other people, either. Can you really say you like liberals or atheists, for instance?

Fear in god doesn't make people love each other. Look at religious societies in the past. If anything, faith in religion gives sanction to government atrocities against people who are smart enough to question whatever dogma is in vogue. Even the bible calls for stoning homosexuals -- there is no way to justify this, in any context ("overturning" mosaic laws is useless, as it assumes your god would have sanctioned mass murder at another point in time).

I doubt religion makes people nicer to others that are not of the same belief. Look at the kind of hatred and bigotry you spew in the name of religion, in questions that you have no intention of learning from -- saying that the government should only recognize your god and belief system, when it was made to be fair to everyone. Do you think we want to be like you?

As for liking other people, here's my recent act. I have a fundamentalist parent. She's hateful, and threatens atheists with hellfire, including her kids. She's cut up old art because it was considered "graven imagery." I forgive her, for all the stupidity and extremism. She doesn't deserve it, but I care.

robertp: Only for the fundamentalists, the ones who use religion to abridge the separation of church and state. The rest is mere disagreement.
