He lied about his past relationship, should this matter?

If u like someone so much, should they be forgiven for lieing about their past?.. even though they have admitted it after spliting up.
He told me tonight he only never told me because it was degrading and plus he never wanted to hurt me or loose me?.. but lieing to me did hurt me and he did loose me, because if i cant trust someone i cant be with them. what do u guys think? wat could be the story behind his pass that it is so bad to tell me about :|?

There is NEVER a reason to lie. Yes the truth hurts sometimes, but the truth cuts a straight line, which makes it easier to heal, and it is less painful. Lies cut jagged, which isn't easy to heal, and they hurt like a son of a witch! Once someone lies and is discovered in that lie, or they come clean on their own, you're left wondering what else they've lied about, what else they will lie about. There is no telling what is so bad about his past that he can't tell you. He should've just told you that he didn't want to discuss his past, or that he is not comfortable talking about his past, that would've been better than lying about it. Only he can tell you what is so bad about his past. I hope you can work this out.

relationships are built on trust without that you have nothing. It probably is best that you got out early in the game. You both are still young. In a couple of years this will just be one of those things you grow from.

There are a lot of time people have to lie because their love ones find it difficult to accept the hard truth it is known that truth is bitter but not all of us can accept the truth.and may be he never want to lose you so he have to lie .But you need to assure him that the most important thing you want from him is his honesty

I don't think it should matter to you now as you weren't in a relationship then...
People change, he might not have been the person 'then' that he is today, and feels he might lose you if he told you the truth bout his past....
I'd let this one go, your instincts would tell you if he was untrustworthy.

ok see i had a problem like this my boyfriend lied to me bout how many gurls he really sleep wit when we first started he had i was his first well then later after being 2 1/2 yrs together he tells me i was really his 3rd that made me mad not cuz i wasnt his first but cuz he lied i hate liers well at the end dont worry bout his past jux tell him not to lie anymore.

What happened in his past isn't your business if you weren't a couple at the time. Since you insisted on knowing, he tried to tell you something consistant with who he is today.
