I have a 18" sears chainsaw. Do I need a sears chain,or will all 18" chains fit it? Are chains universal?

Not all saw chains are universal. The backside of the chain that rides on the sprocket are different shapes. You need to get one for your brand of saw.

Drive sprockets are different sizes for different size chains. Oregon makes a chain that will fit your saw. Look at your chain, it will have numbers on the teeth and on the part that runs on the sprocket.

Make sure you have the model number with you when you go to buy one. The package lists the models that the chain will fit. There are a lot of different chains for a lot of different models.
