I think this guy is an amazing athlete. I dont know alot of guys his age that would dedicate themselves to train as hard and as much as he does so he can keep playing a sport of any kind.

Hes an amazing player, and to all the people still dwelling on the fact that he didn't shake hands with the players after the Wings were ousted, give the guy a break, I mean he was devastated. Its not his DNA or anything that has him playing at his age, its his drive, determination, and passion to win. The insanely harsh workouts he does isn't for fun, its because he wants to play and he wants to win. Most players lose their motivation at Chelis age, but hes still one of the hardest working guys around. He knows his career is almost over and that hes not going to have many more chances, which is why he took the loss so hard. The guy puts more effort into remaining competitive than most of us will put into anything throughout our entire lives. Can you imagine how hard it must be to fail after putting in that much and getting so close, all while dealing with the ticking clock. Besides, its kind of insane to hold something as trivial as shaking hands over a mans head. Its completely understandable that someone would want to be alone after something like that. Any team would be lucky to have a guy with that much competitiveness.

You know, physically, he might still have it. But mentally, he's a cheap shot and a sore loser. I've heard before that the "old guys" get an attitude and just go out there hacking up other players because they can't handle their emotions - that they are not as good or as fast as the younger guys. That's the Chelios I see.

Now, my hubby has always said that Mark Messier could have still been playing too. And Chelios is no where near the leader Messier was.

He should just retire while he might still have a stitch of dignity.

I'm already impressed with Chris Chelios playing at 45 (soon-to-be 46), but what I find even more impressive is the fact that the man once played with two torn ACLs ten years ago (or something to that effect; or he could have been playing on one torn ACL and one torn MCL...nevertheless, the man played with injuries that have ended players' careers who are half his age)!

Chelios is an American LOL. He can get away with it as a defenceman but would be retired if he were a forward. Not to take anything away from the feat, just my feelings on the guy coming through. He is really the most selfish player with no sportsmanship. I think what is more amazing is how many times he has gone to the play-offs-every year I think. That is some pile of luck. Actually he might have missed out on the post season once. Still, that is alot of play-off games.(246) You see alot of guys have to wait awhile before they get their first taste, he has done it early and often. Still he is dirty and a big baby.

he's still a good d-man, can log 20 minutes a night. that is amazing. i hope he plays until he's 50. one of the restaurant owners in greektown (detroit) was joking that chelios is the only 45 year old greek with a full head of hair and no pot belly.

I bet a lot of people would love to be in his position. He is well past the age when most players lose their drive, get hurt, or just arent as productive. He works really hard to stay in the game.

Kudos for him for making the effort to keep playing. I just wonder what the motivation is. Is there some goal he's trying to achieve? Lord knows he doesn't need the money or another Cup ring.
