I recently saw a figure that said that congressmen (and women) tend to work less than 50% of the days of the year. So, I want to know:
On average, how many days out of the year is each branch of congress in session.

Twelve.

Just kidding.

First, let me say that it is not quite as bad as it sounds. Considering that with weekends - 104 days and traditional holidays - 10 days, the average person takes nearly 30% of the year off with no vacation....add in say 5 weeks vacation (long term employees) and they have to take 44 additional business days off to work less than 1/2 of the year.

That is still one he!! of a lot of time off, but that puts it a little more into perspective.

Too many.

Contrast: The Texas State Legislature meets for 145 days every two years. That's why they havent been able to screw the State up as bad as California and a host of other States. Frankly I would prefer it if they only met for 2 days every 145 years. But that's just me.
