If you have a regularly shaped object like a cube then you can measure its side a and then V=a^3

When you have an irregularly shaped object then you can submerge it in a regularly shaped container like a graduated cylinder (see ref) containing liquid. Measure the volume of liquid before and then after submersion. The difference in measurements is the volume of the submerged object.
