my son, aged 10 is going to be having a bit of a halloween party for some of his school friends and a couple of younger children in the family. I'm a little stuck for ideas for games, music, food etc for this age group with enough of a halloween feel..any suggestions?

If you are having the party at home change all the light bulbs to red ones.
put up some fake cobwebs
hang strings of pop corn every where
Get any adults to dress in fancy dress
Buy some spooky music to set the scene
Play musical bumps
The mummy game ( split the kids in to groups and get them to wrap an adult each in toilet roll the group with the one that looks most like a mummy wins)
bob an apple
musical statues
pass the parcel
pin the broom on the witch
but not too scary last year my friend was so scary the kids wouldnt come in and 1 went home lol)
You could make lots of cheap jelly and mush it all up wrap up a black box and cut a hole in the top blindfold the kids and get them to fish prizes out of the goo

When costumed guests arrive take polaroid pic and give it to them when they leave for a party memento.

Leaf relay--Divide into two even teams and give ea. team the driest worst leaf you can find about same size and type. They are to pass it back over their heads and between legs of one behind, etc. Kids think object is to finish first, BUT it is to see which team ends up with leaf in best condition. No matter how it turns out, declare it "pretty close", and give them each a small prize.

A fun game is to attach a balloon by short string to their ankles, so they don't trip, and they try to stomp on someone else's balloon while protecting their own. (Could use orange and black balloons.) Could Play "Ghost Busters" while they do this. Listen to sample at source.

Pumpkin painting: Get small pumpkin for ea. guest (maybe even gourds) and marking pens or acrylic paints & brushes depending on how much you want to spend, and mess factor. Good to paint one ahead to use as "example."

Decorate cookies. Bake some ghost sugar cookies. Provide bowls of frosting, choc chips, nuts, licorice, etc. for decorations, and let them use their imagination. Then they can eat them.

Shortly before end of party, while guests are eating party food, with no view of yard, have someone else scatter wrapped candy, peanuts in shell and small prizes in yard. Then you announce the Great Pumpkin came and give them each a paper bag to "hunt."

for a game make oblec (o-blech), it's very easy to make and it feels really slimy!! just mix corn starch and water to make it as slimy as you want then put some items in it like plastic spiders and such then blind fold the kids give them a 10 second time limit to find something in there if they find it they get a prize. for music i think they have some stuff at Halloween express if there is one nearby. food, well pizza is always a big hit, buy candy and lots of it!! add spider webs etc. good luck with the party!!

Try cutting wheelie bin bags (lengthways) into strips to hang from the ceiling. Turn main lights off and have 'fairy' lights - gives a nice spooky feel as they walk through. Red and green jelly set 'half and half' so it looks like gunge and 'blood'. Cardboard box with holes to put handsin, have containers inside with cold spaghetti (Worms!), cold custard (just YUK!), and anything else you can think of that would feel 'scary' - they can guess what they're feeling.

Get an adult to dress as a zombie or wear a really scary mask, hide someone in the house and then send the kids (older ones) on a ghost hunt!!

Organize a scare, I once told people that there was a killer on the loose and that he was hiding in the woods right next door to our house. We said he was an Axe man who cut his wife's head off in a fit of anger and just at that point, my dad ran in to the room screaming and threw a fake severed head in to the center of the people who we were telling, they were so scared and it was so funny to watch 1/2 of them run outside of our patio doors screaming! HA HA! How I laughed!
