Friend, I know how you feel. Every day thousands are coming across such situations but feel frustrated when they don't find a way to redress their genuine grievance. I am going to tell you how to go about this but i presume that by now it must already would have been a few days since you had this situation, doesn't matter. Step one- preserve the bread/cake etc with the bug in it- refrigerate or whatever in a polythene bag, preferably transparent. step 2- preserve proof of purchase bill etc ( mostly people do not take bill/recpt etc for such things or throw them away- must learn to keep these recpts till u have consumed the product and found it ok). step3- file a complaint with the consumer court- do it your self, you don't need lawyers to do it, the consumer courts are very sensitive and perfectly understand your situation, they are not like the other courts. You can also write a complaint to the department of health - sending copies to vigilance deptt, commissioner food & civil supplies, health secy all of the delhi govt. these things work, the heat on the baker would be on. ( note however that the right thing to do when you encounter such a situation is to file an FIR right away - phone 100 - sounds too much- its not too much- i done it & i know it works- the FIR or even a complaint at 100 does most of your work and is ample proof of your bonafides which means a lot before the consumer court or even otherwise. Now the police has also started undertanding these matters and whereas the normally expected action is to take bribe from the offender and hush up the matter, now its not so simple, the police knows that if you have gone to this extent you can even go further and for the fear of being exposed dont hasten to hush up the matter. never let the physical proof be handled by any other person as he may try to destroy evidence. It requires a little hassle but gets you amazing results and till we all start setting these trhings straight they'll just keep becoming bad to worse- since its in our attitude. Let me also tell you that its also the delhi govt health deptt.'s responsibility to ensure that such eatables are not allowed to be sold and absolutely proper hygiene is maintained- there are enough laws, they become answerable only when you agitate. The courts/consumer court in many cases order action against the responsible govt servant - who so far had always turned a blind eye to such things enjoying the extra income that he was generating by ignoring his responsibilties.

I have to agree with the above answerers that any further proceeding with this would be a waste of time. Even sending a photo to your newspaper. With all that is going on with the world, do you really think they would make that news? If you feel you must do something, the only viable idea is to call the health department. Then they will inspect the bakery, but if the conditions there are generally clean and sanitary, and this was just a freak occurrence, then nothing will happen to them. If they are unsanitary, they will have to pay a fine and at most close down for a few days to get cleaned up. Then they reopen.
If you contact the Better Business Bureau and the bakery is not a member, then they will do nothing. If they are a member, the BBB will at most make a report of your complaint that will be seen only be consumers who specifically request it. In other words, doing anything other than choosing a new bakery and forgetting about this incident is a waste of your time.

You first have to decide what you are wanting from the bakery. If you are looking for financial compensation, you probably can't prove enough economic or emotional suffering to merit a settlement. That's why a lawyer won't take this case.
If you are looking to warn others of possible unsanitary practices, and motivate the bakery to be more careful, then contact the local board of health department that does restaurant inspections and report your incident. Also see if any of your local television news departments have a consumer advocate reporter.
Don't throw the evidence away. Without physical proof, you don't have credibility.
The reality is that no matter how careful a cook or baker is, a fly can get into food - even in your own kitchen. It is a rare occurrence and not a pleasant one, but does happen from time-to-time.

There must be some sort of agency that deals with hygene within retail food outlets. Obviously having a bug in your bread is not a nice thing to discover but it would be very hard for the shop to notice that the bug was inside the bread. If you still have the bread then you should have taken it to the bakery and shown it to the manager and asked for some sort of recompense. It is a bit of overkill to try to take this to a court of law because then you would have to prove that the bakery had been negligent in their duty to uphold a certain standard of cleanliness within the workplace

Please, just drop it. That's one of the problems with this world, people wanting to sue people over something as trite as a fly in their bread.
Of course it's disgusting, but just take the loaf back to the bakery and I'm sure they'd be happy to give you a fresh fly free loaf. If they won't, then report them to the county health department.

This is your biggest problem with society? Even the money sucking lawyers are not bothered with this. Give it up. If you want to make a stand and try to change something is this society.....there is so much more suffering going on than this.

Get over it. If you don't want to eat the fly, don't eat it. It does not mean a lawsuit. Like the lawyer said, it's not worth pursuing.

Unless you got seriously ill from it, forget it. Buy your bread from a different bakery.
