We had a written contract, they did half the job, the police, lawyers and BB say they cant help because they re not members and a host of other things.

My 82 year old mother did it and YES we will be in trouble in winter, WORSE in spring, I need to have something I cn do, because she is in control of house and we are screwed

The tar is gone, the rain took the gravel, the more rain the more it will flow, we are at the very bottom of a hill on 3 sides, and the water makes the base sink 2ft when standing.

with out raising the nd up with something that wont wash away, we will be able to raise carp, dolphins and the creature of the deep lagoon.

I live in Massachusetts.

I was thinking of stacking wood their to raise the base to street level for a few inches or maybe buying 10 or 12 cold patch bags

Describe what he did a little more - we might be able to figure out how you can use it for now, while you see about doing something about the contractor. All the above is great but it's next to impossible to do anything to him. I know - I'm a contractor (a reputable one!) Depends on what state you live in because it varies greatly between states.

No offense meant to others who answered first but I'm going with Steve in NC on this one.

Obviously you've been ripped off, and suggestions about what to do about the Pirate aren't helping you resolve the immediate issue of the driveway and/or wall.

Can you at least hire another contractor to determine the stability of the wall? Can you afford to at least add more gravel to allow access to the garage and in and out of the drive?

Certainly the added expense has to happen no matter. You might never settle with the Gypsy contractor. Litiagtion and attorneys will cost you additionally; but for the moment it seems you have to bite the bullet and get some substance that allows use of the drive.

Contact your state licensing authority (Here in Washington state it is the department of Labor and industry. File a complaint. It would help if you had the contractors license number. Also you might try contacting your state attorney general- they often go after bad contractors. Also try contacting your local press- they might do a story on buyer beware and single out this a**hole. You have my deepest sypathy on this subject anf my whole hearted support!!! Second, sue the bastard!!! Then get a bid from a reputable contractor (if there is such a thing) and get the job done right.

I assume you had a verbal if not written agreement. Next time never pay for a job that isn't done, pay half. Anyway, contact both him and your local city magistrate and file a suit. If he doesn't show up they will put a lien on his property. You might and I mean might try your homeowner's policy. You call him a contractor, did he allege to you he was licensed? Contact the Better Business Bureau and stop his business til he completes your drive. Also, contact the city and see if he has a business license. That can be attached as well. Do not let him do this to you or anyone else. Please.

Contact your local better business bureau and report him. It would be hard to tell if your wall will crumble since I don't know what it is made of or how it is constructed. Also, don't know where you live. Is snow and issue?? More info might help. I am sorry you got ripped off. Happened to me once. NEVER again!. Everything is contracted and I always ask for referals. Good luck You could also try your local tv station and they may run a report on rip off's.

why did the contractor leave? did you get mad at him? was he doing something wrong? did a family member die? we need more details then you can figure out your next step-- as to your problem you have to keep water from freezing under the wall and next to the house -- plastic down with some rock on it to keep water out -- sand bags at the road?
