Give them away as mementos or gifts from the heart. It may sound simple but there is someone else out there who would appreciate them. You may find only a few people can really treasure what you see as valuable, but I know I have things that were given to me, small and seemingly insignificant yet they store a memory.
Give them to those who matter, it may help them to understand their importance to you.

We tend to cling to the things that have brought us joy and pleasure in our childhood, even though we have long outgrown them. It is difficult to part with these things. I would suggest that you hand them down to some of the children in your family, either your own kids, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, etc. If you have no young family members, why not donate them to a charity or children's organization where other kids can get pleasure from them. Sometimes hoarding items that are no longer useful can have a downside, as you must make a place for them, take care of them and keep them clean. Soon, your life will be filled with clutter as well as precious memories. A clutter expert who wrote a book on eliminating clutter -- I believe his name is Don Aslet, suggests taking pictures of these items prior to donating them or handing them down. That way, you can still keep them in your memory, but your closets, drawers, and cupboards will have room for new items, better suited to your adult life, and create memories of the present. Good luck!

Take three empty containers, such as large plastic boxes. Mark # one: keep; mark # two: donate; and mark # 3 toss. Separate them this way. I would keep these three containers overnight to see if you change your mind. That way you'll keep what is really special to you, give away the items in # 2, and toss the items in # 3.

there is no easy way to get rid of things that have meanings. i had to just give in and throw things away. the only thing i have still from my childhood is my teddy bear. maybe you should set a goal on how much to get rid of and either just get rid of it at once or get rid of something maybe one a week til gone.
