Because the neo-right has no respect for anyone but their own agenda and idiotology. They aren't making any sacrifices but diminish those who do sacrifice and diminish the people's right to dissent. It's sickening and it's fascistic. It's exactly what the right did in Nazi Germany, in Stalin and Lenin's Russia, in musselini's Italy, and all the fascist regimes in Latin America. America is taking the same path as these fascist regimes and it's sickening. I believe in free speech but I think these people are disgusting, sick and lie for it's own sake and the sake of creating chaos.
God Bless the troops who come home and have to fight the lies of the bush administration and his propaganda machine in the corporate media just to get the truth out of what is going on in Iraq.

I find it ironic when posters claim that the neo right isn't doing this very thing or that only a few are doing it. The right wing has been doing this since 2004 when they wore fake purple hearts at the Republican convention. IT was a disgrace and they belittled a real war hero, John Kerry and he was proven to be a war hero. These people drank the kool aid of the right wing fascists and the paid organization "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth". That organization didn't exist til it was heavily funded by right wing Republicans in Texas. And, cons who are so ignorant and hateful fell for it. The GOP belittled the veterans who fought and sacrificed and happened to receive this metal by wearing it at the convention. That was absolutely disgusting and distasteful. And, by doing so they belittled all war hero's who happened to get that metal for the sacrifices they made in all wars this country has fought.

I don't know why. My daughter is completing her 15 month tour in Iraq. If anyone is entitled to have an opinion on the Iraq war it should the veterans who have served over there. Some of the soldiers disagree with the way that the war is being fought. We should allow them to speak about their views and experiences in Iraq. If we allow them to speak we would be able to get a better view as to what is exactly is happening instead of getting biased information from the government and the MSM.

Would you care to cite examples of combat veterans who's sacrificies have been diminished by the neo-right.

Is it any less diminishing to claim to be a retired Air Force Veteran in one instance, then a GS-12 Civilian when the situation is more favorable?

By the way, when are you leaving?

If you mean by "neo-right" the caller who labeled another caller to a talk show host a "phony soldier" and the talk show host agreed, then I can only say that some people are more interested in making sound than making sense.

I used to work with a guy who mixed just enough fact in with his nonsense that at first he seemed convincing. It was hard to wade through the distortion to find the fact, but many around him latched on to the few facts they recognized and ignored the rest.

I've noticed a lot of that, and on both sides of the aisle.

Edit - To those who insist that Rush was talking about "Stolen Valor" type of soldiers or the specific mental case that claimed service when he got booted from boot camp, go back and look at a fuller transcript. What in the whole conversation makes you think he was NOT referring to the specific Republican against the war Vet that he had just talked to? That is sure how it reads. He started his "Let me explain" transcript right AFTER he hung up on the guy he disagreed with,; Including that part of the conversation makes the intent of the words sound different than truncating it does.
Someone sent me an e-mail note saying I was being "disrespectful" to the fellow I used to work with by calling his statements nonsense, so I wanted to clarify. The man I worked with would frequently misstate the facts. Mistaken facts are not sense. That makes them nonsense, not a difference of opinion. Some issues really are not about how we "feel" or what we "think" unless the thought is based on fact. Many choices really can be based on discernible facts and avoid mistakes in facts. Appearances are NOT everything. Facts count.

I have not heard about this. I did hear about a disgruntled individual who didn't make it through basic training, who got singled out for lying about about killing civilians in Iraq on a youtube video, when he never even became a soldier much less went to Iraq.

If you avoided serving because you had a boil on your butt or got several deferments or went AWOL from the Air National Guard, it's okay to bash privates, specialists, corporals, sergeants, and even Lieutenants and call them phony. It's okay to bash veterans who have served their time and call their medals phony. You must feign outrage at anyone who questions a general who has politicized the uniform he wears by being a PR man for the administration.

The "vet" you are talking about is a phony who never served in Iraq and just made up stories about it before he was found out. He was thrown out of the Army.

Next question lefty?

According to the neocons, it's never OK to criticize Bush or his policies, no matter what sacrifices you have made for your country.

Because they really don't give a damn about the troops - they're just a tool to these people.
