The Malva (mallow) family seems to be the best guess. Right off the bat, you can rule out Alcea (hollyhocks; tall, usually one central stem), Sidalcea, and Sphaeralcea. Callirhoe is also out (wine-cups, low growing, sprawling). Malva moschata (musk mallow) and Malva sylvestris (wood mallow) are also ruled out because of the leaf shape.

The long reddish stems, heart shaped leaves, and the shape of the pods comes very close to being a Malope, but the ones I've grown have a lot more seed in each pod (and they're annual).

The shrubby appearance of the plant seems to indicate that you might have a variety of Althaea (rose of sharon, or hibiscus). It might be a good idea to go back to the garden center to see if they have another specimen that still has the variety tags.

Something in the Malvaceae, the hibiscus/cotton/okra family. Unclear as to what from the photos.
