Yes I would.
I havent had children yet, hopefully in the near future, and the names I have picked for a girl are:
Aurora, after sleeping beauty, or her fake name Briar Rose.
Elora, after the baby princess in the film Willow, she has red hair, and so has my fiance, so that would be the perfect match.
Havent decided for a boy yet, but I like the name Fionn, from the Irish legend- Fionn and the Fianna.

In principle there is nothing against it. I think the most important thing about a first name is that it MEANS something. The first name is an important part of a person's identity (children will at some point begin to think about their name and why they've got this name and how it relates to their person), so there should be a reason for choosing this name or that. Whether this is because the name itself has a beautiful meaning, or because it reminds you of a friend or relative whom you love, or because it's the name of a fictional character you admire doesn't matter.
If you call your son Harry just because you liked the Harry Potter books and can't think of anything better, your son's name doesn't have much meaning. If you call him Harry, because you want him to be a good and brave person always fighting for what is right, always being faithful to his friends, etc., etc. then the name does have a meaning. Still, I wouldn't call him Harry, because the books are so very popular and he's likely to be teased for it in school - well, but you get the point. There's nothing wrong with naming a child after characters in books or films, as long as the name is chosen carefully and thoughtfully.

Media has a great influence on baby naming style. Just think of celebrities. A. Jolie and B. Pitt named their twins Vivienne and Knox. Now in almost every baby name question you can see a form of Vivienne in the answers. Or Hermione is becoming more and more popular thanks to Harry Potter. Actually I love that name, too. =) My other favourite one is from Atonement (the novel not the movie), I think Briony is such a cute name. Some say it's a horrible name, beacuse of the character of Atonement (I guess they didn't read the book, because it actually explains everything in another way). And then there's Jude, from the famous Beatles song, 'Hey Jude'. So yes, I would. And I'd use Briony and Jude.

I thought I would, but then I married a perfectly traditional man who did not like fanciful names at all so I shelved some of the more exotic names I enjoyed for characters in my books. And everyone is happy.
But be real, here. There is a child wandering in this world by the name of Apple. And we surely will never forget the Zappa family--Dweezil, Moon Unit, etc. Sometimes normal names are best.
I was given a perfectly normal name at birth with the idea that I would be called by my nickname my entire life. How would you like to have to correct your teachers on your name at the beginning of EVERY school year your entire life? I suggest we have pity on the future generations and give them names that don't suggest we really had it in for them when they were little...

Of course I would name my children after favorite characters in a movie or a book...especially if they are heroic. I understand the sentiment of wanting to name your son after his grandfather or your daughter after her great aunt three times removed, but if you are attached to a character's name, why not use that name for your child. If I have a baby boy when I get older, I'll name him Noah after the main character in Nicholas Sparks' THE NOTEBOOK. Sounds a bit unusual, but it's all in what individuals like.

Yes, if they were "normal" names, I wouldn't like my child to be laughed at because of their name. I named my daughter after a character of one of my favourite books and one of my favourite actresses at the same time. As I live in a non-English speaking country the name is quite original. No ideas so far about the next kid, all in it's due time...

Why not. Most people name their kids after whatever! Be it characters of movies, books, singers, musicians, objects and quite simply...other people!
If you like the name and you think it's not going to scar the child for life then there is no reason as to not name them whatever you wish!

Yes, especially if it was a "normal" name that wouldn't attract undue attention. I wouldn't call my son "Frodo" for example ... but I might call my daughter Arwen, since that is a standard Welsh name existing before the book.
My favourite literary character's name is Cassandra, and I think that would be okay - I doubt anybody would even know which book it was from.

I did.
I named my daughter after a character in the book "Sati" by Christopher Pike. Her middle name is a 'family' name though.
So did my Mom. She named me after two of the actresses on the t.v. series Little House On The Prarie.
