Like i telling you should know this one, but like when you place someone on waivers, what happens and why would someone do it? like Karel Pilar got sent down to the minors by Chicago, and all of a sudden hes with Atlanta.. and even in 2K8, i can never send my players to the minors, i always have to waive them, and then they get taken by other teams! like wth, someone explain lol.

I answered the waiver question yesterday. let me find the question (anout 1 yr 2 way contracts) and cut and paste.

the waiver length varies depening on the contract and status of the player (new for the current CBA), it is either 72 hours or 96 hours. Once on the waiver wire teams send an email to the NHL saying 'yes' or 'no' to make a claim on the player. If all teams say no, a team can send a player to the minors, trade him, or release him outright.

If a team says yes, the team that placed him on waivers has the choice to recall the player, or let him go to the team that said 'yes' in exchange for agreed upon compensation.

If more than one team says yes, the team with the lowest overall standing gets the claim.

Now, one of the things about waivers, a team can say yes to ruin a trade.

i.e. Minnesota reaches a plan to trade Gaborik to another team. Minnesota puts Gaborik on recallable waivers. A team can put in a claim, forcing Minnesota to recall Gaborik and scuttling the trade

This scenario was performed on Calgary when they originally tried to trade Theoren Fleury. A behind the scenes financial deal was made with the claimants to allow the trade to go through.

In the case of Karel Pilar, he needed to clear waivers to be sent down. Atlanta put in a claim. Chicago let him go to Atlanta because he did not make the team.

What, you think Like I'm Telling knows everything and the rest of us are just fodder? What the hell, man?! lol j/k

I'll use Pilar (almost typed in Pee-lash there) as an example. Perhaps he sucked with his time in Chicago, and he's got a one way contract. They can't trade him because no one wants him and he's taking up a roster spot for someone who can do better. Throw him into waivers. It's basically like a garbage can for GMs for unwanted players, that's what I'm trying to say. There's also rules on clearing waivers in order for a team to pick up the player, compensation if they can't wait that long, things like that. Like I'm Telling would DEFINITELY know about that.

And thanks for the heads up on 2k8. I'm still deciding on which one I should buy, but I'm so sick and tired of 2k7's interference programming (you can turn the penalty call on interference to 100 and the other players will still interfere). Glad to see there's another glitch on 2k8 to help me make my choice.

LOL How much was it? The usual $20? Sell it on eBay and use the money to get EA. You'll still be losing money, but you can call it a "rental fee" to try it out.
