I'm reading a book called "Two Little Girls In Blue" by Mary Higgins Clark. I just started it not too long ago so I don't know a whole lot about it, but two little twins are kidnapped for ransom and then separated when only one twin is returned, and, according to the back of the book, the missing twin is supposedly dead, but the returned twin has a connection with her other twin, and she can sense that she's still alive. I think it'll be interesting, and I might get back to reading it soon...

If you are into thriller/mysteries...John Sanford has a great series set in MN. Sort of like a Law and Order in written form. All books (or most of the first ones) are "_____ Prey". They are formula books, in a way, but excellent reading and they engage you very very quickly.
I also like Janet Evanovich and Patricia Cornwell...same kind of thing, only JE main character is a female bounty hunter and seems very human. I think that I heard a movie maybe coming out...her books are "One for the Money", "Two for the Show", etc...Patricia Cornwell is a mystery/crime based. Her main character is a female Medical Examiner. She's also written others with the legal/crime focus.
I also like period, semi-historical books. Philipa Gregory comes to mind.."The Other Boleyn Sister" and whole series related to English monarchy.

Uglies- by scott something...
its about a city that when you turn 16 you get an operation to turn pretty. ANd once you turn pretty all you do is party and you are happy. The uglie sare not really ugly, they are just average looking, but compared to the pretties, they are ugly.
This book sounds like a stupid one, but it does get exciting, and its good.

age of innocence and a tree grows in brooklyn. Sorry can't remember authors. They are both good. The first one is about a rich guy who likes a cousin. that's as far as I got.
The second is about a poor little girl who tells the story of her family.
