Who thinks Hilary shouldn't be president (not cause she's a woman, but because they don't agree with her policies) and would much rather have Obama

Leadres are chosen by votes. In a way it is a lot like a popularity contest. The people that are voted for have to gain a certain amount of signatures on a petition to get on the ballot. Each party elects its' choice for an office like the President and the Party vote winners are voted for in a general election. It is much like your system with Conservatives and Labour. A major difference is that the President's party does not necessarily gain a majority in the legislature..

If you mean, how is the democratic presidential candidate chosen, here we go. Members of each US political party campaign to win their party's primary election. The winner of each political party's primary run against each other in the general election and the winner is elected president of the US for a 4 year term.

For a more in depth response I would encourage you to read a textbook covering the topic, chech out wikipedia.org, or find an encyclopedia that discusses the US electoral process
