Contact your local Alzheimer's Association office. They have a program for wanderers. There is a device that can be bought, I think it goes on the ankle or wrist.
It's been so long since I attended the seminar, I can't really remember it all (could be a sign of my own aging).
I do know that they have this program and I believe there is a monthly charge for monitoring, but it would be worth it. Kind of like the LifeAlert things.

There is quite a selection of the devices you are asking about. Most companies that sell and install hospital code and signal equipment commonly know as "Nurse Call" (phones, buttons, bells and door lights) also deal in what we call in the industry: Halo systems. These systems are for Babies and mental patients. They do everything from signaling the front desk if the patient leaves the room to turning off the elevators if a babies location changes with out turning of the individual device, which could be a patch, watch, pin or assortment of body attachments.

Most doctors and hospitals have information about these devices. However, whatever you do, don't let them "put" these devices into your relatives. No one deserves to be "treated" like a wild animal. This may be a subtle way to offer relatives the best solution. That would be the implantation of a "homing device" within a person's body. This is just wrong. No one in this world has that "right." Peace, Love and God Bless.

WOW What a great idea!!
I used to manage a small
care home up in the mountains and we had one lady who wandered down the road every morning. She had to go "feed the chickens". If noone was watching her,the Police brought her back. but this would be a wonderful idea. Tthis isn't invasion of privacy, this would be a life-saver.

My sons father in law is a wanderer and in a nursing home, he has an ankle braclet that tells where he is at all times, just in case he takes off.

Contact the GPS manufacturers and ask if they make small ones that can be used for that purpose.

I am sure there should be something. We have bracelets for our "wanderers" where I work that sets off the security alarm.
