WWE Champion John Cena has suffered a complete tear of his right pectoral tendon and is heading into surgery, according to noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Because of the seriousness of the injury, WWE officials will not allow Cena to compete this Sunday at No Mercy, and he will have no choice but to surrender the title.

Dr. Andrews said Cena could miss between six and eight months of action. Cena was injured during his match with Mr. Kennedy Monday night on Raw. According to WWE physician Dr. Ferdinand Rios, Cena's injury was more serious than initially thought.

"He has a complete tear of his pectoralus major muscle," Rios said. "Because he’s so big, [the tendon tear] is behind the muscle. It was hard to diagnose."

Rios said Cena will be hospitalized for a few days to learn the rehabilitation procedure he must undergo. His arm will be immobilized for a week and then therapists may allow him to start moving it so that the arm doesn't become stiff.

Rios said that Cena is so dedicated to WWE that he wouldn't be surprised to see him return sooner than later.

"I suspect that John might be able to come back sooner [than most people with this injury], as he’ll train vigorously," Rios said.

Before visiting Dr. Andrews, Cena had said last night, “No matter how serious the injury, one way or another I’ll be ready to compete on Sunday.”

But despite Cena’s vow, WWE officials will not allow him to compete at No Mercy. Therefore, he must surrender the WWE Championship.

WWE officials vow that there will be a WWE Championship Match this Sunday at No Mercy and a new WWE Champion will be crowned.

isn't it sad, i'm so bummed, he was the biggest wrestler of RAW, rwa's ratings are so going to go down, but this might be a good thing it'll show people that raw is nothing without Cena, but since he's so dedicated, i know he'll be back soon.

Ok.........First, the fans kept tuning in b/c no matter what the haters of Cena say he was a top personality and you watched if you loked him and watched more if you didnt in hopes he would lose. Second, WWE will NEVER fire John Cena b/c he is the hardest worker in the business today! Third, he CAN wrestle, its just the haters who just dont appreciate what he does in the ring. He has improved so much in the past two years! Lastly, he is in movies b/c he is a tremendous performer and personality to show off. I have a ? for you.............Is there anyone besides Cena who could carry a movie like he does?? Besides Mr selllout the Rock or shall I say Dwayne No Johnson.

It sucks that it had to happen this way. I would prefer it if Orton beat Cena, if that was going to be the case on Sunday at No Mercy. And now the WWE will drop the title on HHH. C'mon, do you guys really think they'll give Orton the title just like that? Nope.

Good news: new champion. Bad news: no Last Man Standing Match.

Well, well....

I guess we'll all see if Raw is better without Cena-boy after all.

I just hope they don't give the strap to Jeff Hardy. Almost ANYONE else I could deal with.
