A block of mass 0.600 kg is suspended using a spring and a string as shown in the diagram. In this situation, the spring is stretched and its length is 12 cm. The relaxed length of the spring is 7 cm.

a.)Find the tension in the string. Start from a fundamental principle and show all work.

b.)What is the spring constant ks of the spring. Show all work.

Please show how you did it too...I'm studying.

I will assume the string has negligible mass

a) the weight of the block is the tension in the spring, or
0.600*9.81
5.886 N

This doesn't match the answers, is the block on an incline at an angle of 60 degrees?

b)using my answer of 5.886 N for the tension
the delta x is .05 m
using F=k*x
k=5.886/.05
or
117.7 N m

Again, doesn't match. Would you take a break from your studying and provide a diagram?
