It has nothing to do with the MOVIE format war. Even though MS is marketing the Xbox 360 as a entertainment hub, it is still primarily a gaming system. Think about it this way, are you going to stop playing blu-ray based games on a PS3 if blu-ray loses the format war? Didn't think so.

You forget that the 360 came out a year before the PS3, which was also before the HD-DVD standard was finalized. MS wanted to be the first out of the gate, so they used available technology rather than waiting for the new stuff.

After the system was out, they only offered an add-on drive for standardizing purposes. Games can only be in DVD format because MS isn't going to force people with earlier generation consoles to upgrade, and the sure as hell aren't going to pay to replace the drives in all the systems that they've sold so far.

You know what, I haven't even thought of that before, but I do know that Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD. I'm glad Sony put the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 though. I still think that Microsoft should have put in a HD DVD drive in the 360 so that they can at least make their games using a HD-DVD disc because it can hold more data than a standard DVD. But it doesn't really matter to me because I have a PS3!!!

yes, because HD DVD and BLURAY are competing in the market for best quality in movie. The reason why microsoft dont put HD drives because they are not confident that the HD DVD will sell as much as the BLURAY. So far i heard the BLURAY is winning the completing one-third of sell than HD. So i guess microsoft played it safe and decided to make it come seperately.
