Transvaginal ultrasound is a method to look at a woman's reproductive organs, including the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and vagina. Transvaginal means across or through the vagina.

Transvaginal ultrasound is a type of pelvic ultrasound.

It depends on which form you had done. One can be done if you're pregnant and they can tell you right away.

The other you can not have done if you are pregnant.

How the test is performed************************************

You will lie down on a table with your knees bent and feet in holders called stirrups. The health care provider will place a probe, called a transducer, into the vagina. The probe is covered with a condom and a gel. The probe sends out sound waves, which reflect off body structures. A computer receives these waves and uses them to create a picture. The doctor can immediately see the picture on a nearby TV monitor.

The health care provider will move the probe within the area to see the pelvic organs. This test can be used during pregnancy.

In some cases, a special transvaginal ultrasound method called saline infusion sonography (SIS), also called sonohysterography or hysterosonography, may be needed to more clearly view the uterus.

This test requires saline (sterile salt water) to be placed into the uterus before the ultrasound. The saline helps outline any abnormal masses, so the doctor can get a better idea of their size.

SIS is not done on pregnant women

If you are pregnant, the results will definitely get back to you.
The ultrasound tech is not allowed to be the first to disclose your results to you though. The radiologist from the clinic or hospital that did this ultrasound will be in contact with your physician and give them the results in the next few days, and they will then contact you.

If they tell you that they cannot see a pregnancy, it does not mean that you are not pregnant. If it is very early in your pregnancy the embryo may not be developed enough to image or may appear like a cyst. This is why it is important to give an accurate history when asked. You have to remember when your last period was and when the last time you had intercourse was and figure out if the timeline allows the possibility of pregnancy.

Tell you doctor that you think you could be pregnant and he will write you a requisition for a blood or urine pregnancy test, or you could wait a few days and do a home pregnancy test.

Best of luck.

technicians are not allowed to say anything about what they see on the ultrasound. I started bleeding early in pregnancy and had an ultrasound. The tech wouldn't say anything. We had to wait until a Dr got the results, and then we still didn't get much info, other than yes, you are pregnant. An ultrasound a week later, and the same thing. Waiting......Ok, you were pregnant, but there has been no growth, so go for blood work. Miscarriage. They made me wait over a week wondering if I was going to carry the baby or if I had lost it.

You must have gone to a lab, not a doctor. A lab cannot tell you anything.

If you saw a doctor, I have never heard of waiting to get results. I would be asking why they didn't tell you then. They are able to see everything on the screen.

I think it takes 3-4 weeks after you ovulate to see any signs of pregnancy via transvagional ultrasound. That would be 5-7 weeks after the first day of your last menstral cycle.

Good luck.

they see your results immediately while they are doing it with an ultrasound... it does not take 3-4 days you need to call your doctor and ask him about it. and if you are less than 6 weeks pregnant theres a good chance they wont see anything even with an internal ultrasound because its too early.

I would think if they saw it they would tell you. Keep in mind they weren't looking for a pregnancy, so they may not have seen it. Again, I would think they would, there's not much else in there! If you think you are, you can ask when they call with the results. I wouldn't assume you're not if they don't say anything. Good Luck!

If you were pregnant they probably would have told you. They probably are taking so long to rule out ovarian cysts, fibroids, or an enlarged bladder. It takes awhile to read those things especially with a backlog. I've never known a tech who didn't yell" there's the baby" if they saw one.

I would think that they would read the results then give you a reliable diagnosis. So they propably don't want to get your hopes up by saying something too soon. Good luck to you.

I think that they would have said something if they saw a baby, and you would have saw it as well.
