Sadly our society teaches no values & morals whatsoever & has made it hard for parents to disipline their children the right way. I blame alot of that on today's parent(not all mind you) who seem to care more about wanting to work or caring about their own pleasures than about their own children. It's disgusting when i walk down the streets & see how 11 yr old girls are dressed when they go to school. I mean my god! parents allow their kids to go out looking as if they belong in a street corner instead of going to school? Kids be swearing & cursing in public. Kids as young as 10 are in the streets as late as 3am. Who else can u blame for that than the irresponsibilty of today's parent? Schools have also failed our kids & now allow the students instead of the teachers run the classroom. Society teaches us that it's ok for kids to get condoms in School but yet wrong to talk about values & morals & teaching them right from wrong.

I have seen cases where some single parents put their jobs or their B/F's or G/F's ahead of their own children. Today's tv shows make it seem cool for kids to disrespect parents police & authority in general. Society makes it seem wrong for girls or guys to use abstinence or they are laughed at for wanting to wait till they get married. Is it any wonder why our kids are getting worse when it comes to respect morals & values?

The parents are mainly to blame but let's put some blame on the kids themselves...........By age 10 or 11 they DO have somewhat of a good idea of what's right and wrong........They know, in large part, what will get them by with their friends (especially if it's the wrong kind of friends) and if it's right or wrong........All too many youngsters are under peer pressure and want to belong somewhere.........In part that could be because their parents don't know how or don't want to be real parents.......They just want to (let me see how to word this without getting anywhere near vulgar) have the pleasure of making the children............And NOT the responsibility of raising them...........I don't blame society because everyone from young to old has a mind of their own and it's up to them to choose which direction they go in...............GREAT QUESTION..................CAT http://cuddlecat.proboards99.com/index.cgi

People have become more individualistic and materialistic. Less belief in religion and teachings. Love in a family has disappeared and the bonding has gone. People are going for money and fancy failing to realise that it is not the true world. Religious leaders have lost their respect and morality. The punishments and fines for committing a wrong doing is still the same compared to 40 - 50 years ago. So people don't have the fear of commiting a crime.

I think that society does teach children morals and values, just not the morals and values you want.
I agree that the parents are primarily responsible but I also lay blame on pop culture, especially television. It encourages stupidity, laziness, and lack of respect. It also encourages a sense of entitlement - children especially learn that they are entitled to do anything they want and have anything they want without working for it.

I put parents to blame completely. Our schools do suck and our societal ideals are messed up, but a parent can easily control EVERYTHING that enters their house!
My mother refused to buy me skimpy clothes. My mother did not tolerate back talk. My mother made me do homework before going out. My mother demanded that the school let her know every time I acted up. My mother would be on me like Armageddon if I defied her.
This is what parents need to do. Don't give in to pop culture and all those little parenting magazines. YOU raise your child not anyone else. That's why parents are COMPLETELY to blame. It's their authority over everyone elses.

I really think it is the parents fault. I am raising two teen aged sons and they have morals and attend church every week and respect other people. They know the right way to deal with most situations and I am proud of them every day!

it's very hard to pinpoint the exact problem(s).
we have so many movements in america that could have had an impact on the way our moral structure have shifted for rock bottom.
I know it's for the betterment of human socialism, but it has gotten way out of hand. we have given so many rights to groups that we have lost ground on when to say enough is enough.

I blame the christian right. They make even god unsavory.
And most people pick up a sense of morality anyway. It's a learning process in life. I'm hardly as pessimistic as you.

I call it the Wait Till Your Daddy Gets Home Syndrome. Everybody is mad because they think they are going to get in trouble when the End of the World comes.
Whether it is conscious or subconscious.
