She is asking you to discuss the relationships among war, politics, and religion. Connect religion and politics by looking at wars fought over religion.

Yes, in a way. She wants your basis of the essay to be politics and religion and their relationship based on how they played a part in the war. You'll see that in history (and still often today) the relationship between politics and religion go hand in hand. Whoever holds the power (England...catholic church for example) determines the fate of many people.

I think she is asking for you to state how religion can affect the politics of a war. Think of the Israelis and Palestinians. They both think that God gave them the land that the other lives on. Both sides believe that it is their God-given right to have the land. What better reason to go to war than to defend the will of God? This has been a justification for war for thousands of years, and it is still going on. I'm sure you can find other examples of this by doing some research on the internet.

Both, since the interraction of religion and politics is exactly what has triggered many wars.

I've never known a teacher to ask her class to write an essay on something that hadn't already been thoroughly covered in classes on that subject. Go back over your textbooks, and your personal workbook notes, and formulate your essay from that material.

It seems kind of open-ended...
What did she discuss in class on this? Usually you have to rewrite what the teacher talked about in class on this subject. However, if you can't remember, try to think of wars that were clearly started as religious causes, like the Holy Wars of Medieval times to WWII Hitler eliminating the Jews in his country, and then determine how politics in home countries was affected by the wars in foreign lands.
That's the best place to start.
Good luck.

She's asking you to look at the religious wars like the crusades and examine how religion and politics intermingled during those wars.

Religions don't see eye to eye on a number of issues. Politicians have their own religions and they represent that. Think about what kinds of problems this causes. For example: A Christian politician represents a state which is 40% Muslim. Why couldn't an Atheist win a senate seat for Utah?

by the wording of her question, i'd say she's asking for a compare/contrast between politics and religion during the wars...

your teacher has asked you to 'discuss' .. that means it is open to your interpretation .. if it were me answering that question .. I would take the point of view that all wars have their roots in religion and politics .. and a considerable number have involved both elements .. the possibilities are endless, I'd be thanking my teacher for giving me such a wide easy to follow scope of reference .. but them I'm 66 and we had to learn history
