Cruel fate???

Becoming self sufficient and not relying on the government dole and the largess of the sugar teat of the American taxpayer is now something to be scorned???

Give me a Yuppie ( Young Urban Professional) any day of the week, and I'll take a dozen of them and build one heckuva company that will make us all 13 financially secure beyond our wildest dreams.

I became one, and have a net worth after 15 years of hard work, that will exceed your cumulative salary at the Yippee!! until you retire....and I would dare say the combined salary of a few of your co-workers tossed in there for good measure.

I never have to worry about the next 3 generations of my family ever having to work again in their lifetimes........ and you want to scorn that??? Dont knock it brother..unless you've tried it...

Aren't yuppies white people with money? Very simple, either go broke and become poor, or save up all your cash and retire early.

If you want to do the broke option, there are many ways to do this. Giving it all away to charity or the poor is a sure fire way to do this. If someone gave me all their money, I'd make sure to take good care of it, I need a second chance.

However, there are worse fates a person can suffer then being well off.

You need to make a very fundamental decision. Will you operate outside of the mainstream for the rest of your life or will you want to have the lifestyle that the mainstream does?

Will you live into old age/retirement on just your social security and the cash you can bum or collect from recycleables?

These are the kinds of decisions you must think through because it is more than just avoiding an adolescence sense of indignation about authority and rebelling against your parents.

The path you take at this grand juncture pretty much determines what will be the quality of life you will have, although with great luck, determination and getting a great education can allow you to live the life where you do not have to grub, scrap, and fight for the finer things in life.

Visit thrift stores, serve your community and get outside a little bit. Also realize that there are more important things than the cost of your home. Another idea is not to stress out about your outward appearance. I see yuppies as self-centered people who only care about status or money. It's not a great way to be, but it's easy because popular culture sort of promotes it.

Grow old fast.

Work in a dead end job that pays next to nothing.

Never go to Starbucks unless you work there.

Buy your clothes at thrift shops.

Drive a Ford Focus

Eat lots of Dairy and red meat.

Never Execise

Disobey every law.

Don't pay your taxes.

Smoke drink and do drugs to your heart's discontent.

And, get your high school sweet heart pregnant in your senior year.

If that does not do it then join a Jesuit Monastery.

Oh, yea. Under no circumstance buy a lotto ticket or show up for a will reading, no quick fortunes for you.

Hmmmm...I think a yuppie is the opposite of a hippie...so just be between those 2 things and you should be ok.
But what would I know...I have the "yuppie flu".

There is no known way to keep from becoming a yuppie.. Knowing that you have become and turning back is the key.

The easiest & best way NOT to become a "yuppie"...

{definition : yuppie n. Informal.
A young city or suburban resident with a well-paid professional job and an affluent lifestyle.}

....well you could become an old "slacker"

{definition: slacker n. Informal
One who shirks work or responsibility: “In terms of their outlook on the future, slackers regard tomorrow with a studied cynicism or . . . don't even conceive of one” (Julie Caniglia).}

Literally speaking... I can't understand why you would consider this, but it is your life! (and your question) LOL!

Quit being a young, upwardly mobile individual. Become happy with where you are in your employment without being so focused on the almighty dollar.

Find the inner part of you that likes to give back to your community. Take an interest in & begin doing your part to help the environment. : )

Change your Nationality to Scots and live in Scotland. We Scots cannot afford ( finacially ) to be yuppies. The English Government keeps us poor.
