The nurse said it was nothing to worry about. I made sure to drink plenty of water beforehand but nothing would come out of my right arm. Finally she got a bit out of my left arm after poking the needle around a few times. Is this a common occurrance or something that I should worry about?

The nurse didn't know what she was doing. You obviously have blood, and she just kept missing the vein. Next time, suggest a pedi needle or a butterfly. It will take longer, but it will be easier if you have small veins or ones that roll. Better yet, get a different nurse.

Happens frequently. Many people have 'difficult' veins; either very tiny in diameter, slippery [ roll back and forth ], or lots of valves, so when you get 'stuck' you hit a valve and no blood return.
I have crappy little veins - about the size of uncooked angel hair pasta. Last time I got stuck seven times for one tube of blood! Changing people didn't help - four different people tried.
Weight training might help - all weight trainers and body builders seem to have great veins!

I've been in the midle of donating and had the blood just stop. It does happen, why, I don't know. If it happens on a regular basis, then you need to see the dr.
