Dean is so overrated. I know it's impossible to appreciate his impact so many years after the fact, but I think Brando was so much better. Dean was more like Montgomery Clift--a bit of a sissy.

James Dean definitely was a non-comformist and a rebel in real life. He did tend to be a quiet person but had rather a wild side, too. The next post makes it sound as if he was Marlon Brando in "The Wild One", but he wasn't.

Dean's favorite book was "The Little Prince" by Antoine Saint-Exupery. He was considered part of various crowds, from the intellectuals to unsavory types. Among his friends was TV hostess/actress/performer Vampira. He had rather an eclectic gathering of friends and followers. So, check out the other facets of this talented young man who died far too soon~September 30, 1955, a few months short of his 24th birthday.

He was from Indiana, right next door to me. They have annual festivals in honor of him.

At least, they worked it out that he likely was not speeding enough to have caused or been unable to avoid the accident. A lot of unfortunate circumstances came together to cause his death, according to accident reconstructionists.

He was the original moody one with his dark glasses and cigarette drooping. Incredibly good looking with great hair. He epitomised youthful rebellion absolutely in an era where change was a'coming and didnt it just. A hero of his generation.
