You can ask your old employer to allow you to remain on till the new start date. They don't have to, however you can ask. There are no legal remedies.

If they are unwilling or unable to keep you on, you may be able to get unemployment benefits during the downtime. You quit for an allowed reason.

Well you are in a bit of a tight position. I found myself in a similar position a short while ago when my workplace was taken over by a new company and they changed our pay cycle. It was quite a worrying time for me as I didnt want to fall into debt. I'm assuming that you are up to date with your bills and usually pay them on time as I did. What I did was talk to the different companies and explained my position to them and fortunately for me they were very understanding and agreed to accept payment when my new pay date arrived. I think it helped that I approached them and told them what had happened instead of avoiding them and saying nothing, honesty in my situation was definately the way to go and maybe it may be the way for you. You can only try and I'm sure that they will appreciate it if you contact them. Give it a go and let me know how you get on.

Regards

Ron

See if your old boss will let you work until your new employer wants you to start. Hopefully you didn't leave in a way that you burnt the bridge behind you. If the boss lets you work, that would be great for both you and your boss because you could help train a new person to take your old job.

Speak to your current employer, if you have been an honest, reliable worker and you are on good terms they may extend your contract with them til your new job becomes available. Did you not get the confirmation through from new employer before handing in your notice? Alternatively you could explain the situ you are in with your new employer and they may let you start on your original start date

Just ask them if you could work a couple of weeks more. I'm sure they'll be fine.
