If you have a pad in for over the limit is that a bad thing to do? I know that they have limits some only up to 5 hours and all but I just want to know that way I don't wear one for too long. Because the pad I have on is having an odor and I have noticed ALOT of blood but in one area.

I only ask on Yahoo Answers this question because most of my family is gone most of the time. My mom even wanted to avoid any talk about Periods so she just had me watch The Video at school =/. When my mom, dad, or sister are home I am usually asleep [[AKA Bedtime]]

Ok, first I would just like to point out that having an odor is NORMAL. If you've noticed, the blood during your period isn't exactly odor-free. Anytime the blood is exposed to air, its going to have a bit of an odor to it. This is why you smell it more when you wear pads than when you wear a tampon. It has a bit of metallic smell to it.... but anyway, wanted to point that out so you wouldn't worry.
Most of the time, no one can smell it but you and its normally because of a couple of things. One is because maybe you just went to the bathroom and you've exposed the pad/blood to air, so that naturally is going to cause a little more of a smell. But trust me, you're the only one that can smell it unless someone is sitting beside you on the toilet! Two, most of the time, women's senses get a little heightened when we're on our period, meaning our smell gets stronger. So, we're able to smell those odors a little bit better.
Okay, with that said, let's move on to the question about changing it. Honestly, changing your pad is completely up to you. I know some people change their pad everytime they go to the bathroom. Some people change their every 3 hours. Some change their pad whenever they feel the blood spilling over on the sides. When I wore pads, I would change them everytime I went to the bathroom simply because I hated the feel of pulling up my pants with a dirty pad. Its all personal.
If you look at the pad and notice that the blood there isn't abosrbing anymore, then its probably a good idea to change it. It is normal for the blood to gather in one area since you're only bleeding from one area, and two, you may not be moving around a lot. Say, if you're in school and sitting in class, you're not exactly having enough movement to cause your pad to squirm. And personally, I'd feel better if its gathering in one spot! That way, its not leaking or anything!
So, go with what you feel is comfortable. If you're able to wear a pad for 5 hours, then do it. Or if you're like me, and you can't stand the thought of a dirty pad, switch to tampons or change them frequently! :)
Hope this helps!

It is not sanitary to wear a pad for any great length of time. If you have noticed an odor - it's time to change the pad! As for the odor plus blood in one area, give it a day or two and if it continues, see your doctor to make sure it isn't a health-related issue.

I don't think it's dangerous bad but it is gross. If you are noticing an odor that means everyone around you is probably noticing the odor. I don't wear pads so I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to change it AT LEAST every 5 hours. Change it!

Having a pad on is not hazardous to your health...it may not be sanitary to have it on too long, but it wont kill you or anything. Blood will gather in one spot. If it has an odor, change it if its still lingering after you pull your pants on. The only thing you should worry about is tampons. If you dont want to waste pads, you can dab the blood with tp and sprinkle a bit of powder to absorb some moisture.

Well having a pad in for a long time can put your health at risk, but I think you are okay as long as you change it when it gets really damp. Odors are normal, too. Maybe you should ask your doctor for information if you are really worried.

It sounds totally normal to me. I would just recommend changing your pad a little more often then every 5 hours. Just because it holds for up to that long doesnt mean that is when you have to change it. I would change it when ever you use the restroom. Good Luck! And Dont worry!

If there is odor you can get some pads with a fragrance on them. Or you could buy some feminime <==spelling spray and try that. Also if it is too bloody then I would go ahead and change it. I usually change mine when I notice it is dirty.

A pad is not the same thing as a tampon.
Change your tampon as suggested on the box. Use a fresh one before bed because that will be in for atleast 8 hours.
Also only use the strength that you minimally need; don't use super if your flow is regular, etc. Because that will minimize your risk for TSS.
PS: YOU CAN'T GET TSS FROM A SANITARY PAD. ONLY A TAMPON.

The toxic shock that some people have mentioned applies only to tampons. You can wear a pad for as long as you want. You can change them as frequently as you'd like.

I don't really understand your question. You shouldn't wear pads for longer than six hours, it's unhygenic and could cause problems, but if you want to change them any earlier than that, you can.
