I just ran into that... I have a real undeniably homophobic friend who I came out to as gay today, and he had no problem with it. Isn't that odd? I feel like I break the rule. Like he has a problem with gay guys, but am I the exception, just because he's known me as one of his best friends for a few years? Strange...
Btw, I'm 15.

If they are homophobes they can't be my friend.

Anyone who says "ah, but you are different" is just a cowardly hypocrite.

i guess since he knew you for so long and got along with you so well i guess your sexuality didn't matter to him since you were his best friend or maybe because since most heterosexual guys think that all gay guys want to be with them or turn them gay. but that's not true because does every girl want to be with him? no. so why would every guy want to be with him. i too have a friend at school who i get along with but he is also is homophobic but i haven't came out to him because their is no need to.

Yes, I've had that happen too. I had a friend who was always mouthing off about "big dykes" and how she hated them. We'd known each other for about a year, and I finally heard her say that in person (instead of word of mouth or gossip from somebody else). As soon as she said it, I turned and said " I'm a big dyke, you hate me too?" She looked at me and said "Of course not, you're not like them". We had several convos about it, but she was basically ok with me because I never hit on her.

She's more openminded now....thank goodness.

(being gay is not acceptable to her) Since he was our school mascot, I was a cheerleader he would hell her " I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND, its Crystal why do you think I stay after school & go to the school games, to give her support" Obviously his mom didnt know he was our mascot-Which sucks

Yes, a couple of people. I am happy they were willing to change their point of view when they realized that preconceptions were stereotypes, and that a person from any walk of life could be gay too.

Yes, actually I am good friends with many people who 'used to hate gays" I think it is just about them finally seeing us as a person.

It's hard to believe you're so young! You write exceptionally well. But you'd be surprised how many people either change their mind, or make an exception once they can hang a name on it.

Well, nobody outside of this website knows about me. However, a lot of my friends are diehard homophobes. I don't know if they would accept it or not...I go to a brutally conservative Catholic school.
