Not sure if this is what you are asking.
But there is Treated Lumber and non treated lumber and now composite lumber . Treated lumber comes in different types of treatments. The treatment help preserve it from insects & weather damage. Used for decks and such. Composite lumber is a mix of wood fibers and resins. Its also used for outside projects like decks. Non treated is usually used for projects not exposed to the elements or insects. Like building walls and such.

Timber is basically wood before it goes to the saw mill just look up types of wood like oak,maple mahogany.birch,cherry, etc,and etc.

maple,pine,oak,cyprus,mahoganey,cherry,cedar,walnut all the different types of wood,go ahead and look those up... and they have pressure treated lumber with cerain chemicals to prevent wood rot,wich they use in most wood homes these days!
