It costs a lot, at least several hundred a month, and please remember it's MY hard-earned money that is paying for your irresponsible decisions.

Please abstain or find a good man to support you and your child instead of asking us to do it!

Having a baby does cost. Mostly in health insurance but you probably have medicaid so there is no cost for you. Food stamps usually increase in pregnancy or once the baby is born. Clothes are needed but cheap ones can be found at Goodwill, Salvation Army, Craigslist and such. Diapers are a cost but if you use cloth you cut down on that cost 85%. Baby formula can be made from dry milk powder and liquid vitamins/minerals. Baby food can be made by cooking food with little or no seasoning and putting it in a blender until smooth. Using Cream of Wheat is a great cereal for babies. You can have a baby on little money what most people consider a cost for babies is all the stuff they want to have for the baby, not necessarily what the baby needs.

State assistance such as TANF is usually only supposed to be used for NEEDY families. That is why it is called TANF (temporary assistance for needy families.) Food stamps is supposed to only be for people who are having a hard time getting by. Many people take advantage of these and that is why it's getting so hard for others who actually need them, to obtain them. Just a little FYI if you are looking to live off of the state, depending on where you are living, they will make you go through programs that they have. Most states make you work 33 - 38 hrs a week for Tanf/Foodstamps. My Mom works at the local DPHS (department of human services) and all of the people that are her clients that recieve benefits have to abide and go by the program that they are set up with. You have three warnings and if you fail to comply with their program a third time, you are banned from getting Foodstamps/cash assistance ever again. Also, many states only let you stay on foodstamps/cash assistance for a number of months then they cut you off. It is not a permanent fix to your solution. If you are early in your pregnancy, why not try working up until your third trimester if you do not have any medical problems or why don't you ask your partner to work? Please stop trying to ruin benefits for people that need them by taking advantage of them unless you REALLY need them.

As the others said, GET A JOB! I sympathize with those on food stamps and assistance because they truly need it, but it disgusts me when people mooch off the government and don't even try to work. Also, if you just try to live off welfare and think someone else will keep sending you a check, your benefits will get cut off after a certain amount of time if you aren't doing everything in your power to work. They'll hound you about getting a job, and if you don't have one within a few months, you have to kiss your free money goodbye.

I really don't have an answer to your question. However, I just wanted to say how sorry I am that some people can be so mean. I have a friend who had to go on bed rest for most of her pregnancy, and her husband lost his job because the factory that he worked at closed. So, through no fault of their own, they had to apply for government assistance for a while. Perhaps people should know the circumstances behind someone's question before they start spewing nasty comments.

Well these people are just rude. I am sorry for their ignorant comments. They don't know your situation. Anyway, if you breastfeed your infant, the only thing you will really need to buy for quite some time is diapers and clothes (if you didn't get enough from a shower or whatever). If you aren't going to breastfeed, formula can cost anywhere from 10-25 dollars, depending on the brand. I use walmarts parents choice and my daughter loves it....only 11 bucks. Good luck!

If you are not making enough money to support yourself, you should not be having babies!! Do you not have any pride that you make hardworking families give up their money to help support you? The money that you are living on does not grow on trees, it comes out of the pockets of your neighbors.
