I had BT Broadband for years, and never once had a problem with it. It was fast enough, and very reliable. I only cancelled it because I emigrated.
MATT: BT is in Britain, Comcast is not. And for the record the BT service I had over there was FAR better than the Comcast service I get here.

I have it but I think it is expensive
For example they insisted I set up a direct debit to include cost of broadband and ordinary calls which means my account is always in credit.
I would prefer to pay broadband on the usual monthly basis and deal with my phone bill in the usual way at the end of each QR.
It is reliable and fast

I went from bt anytime to bt broadband £8.95 for first six months, so far haven't had any problems. May be cheaper but thought I'd stick with what I had already.

Out of the top providers, they are likely to be the most reliable. Before you choose a package, use their official speed test to check what kind of speeds you can get.
And you don't need 8Mbps broadband if you're only a light user. 1 or 2 Mbps is enough for that.
Whether it is the best depends on your specific requirements.

I have BT broadband and it works perfectly well. However, it was the first broadband that I got so I cant compare it with anything else.

You might pay a bit more for BT but you getter better customer service and reliable internet connection ,than cheaper ISP operators = poor service and lots of internet disconnections which can last for weeks and sometimes months. (Orange).

No, definitely not. BT's network is overstretched as it usually opted for by people when they don't know where to look for better offers. Try http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/compare.html to compare speed/reliability/customer service for lots of brands. I personally use freedom2surf and have done for 3 years and they're much better. However, there may be better one's now.
