-4d + 2(3 +d) = -14
Simplify 2(3 + d) first, which comes out to 6 + 2d. Add like terms on the left, and it becomes 6 - 2d. Add 2d and 14 to both sides, and the equation is much more manageable as 6 + 14 = 2d. Add like terms again, and its 20 = 2d. Solve for d, and you get d = 10.

this one will be kinda easy ..i think
ok so look i will do it in two ways
-4d + 2 x 3 + 2 x d = -14
-4d+6+2d=-14
-2d+6=-14
now thats how far i can get
here is the second way
-4d + 2(3+d) =-14
-4d + 2 x 3d +-14
-12d + 2 = 10
d=10
ok i think I did the first one wrong i am sorry ask your teacher

first think of your order of operations. Powers first, brackets second, then multiplying/dividing, and finally addding/subracting.
So first deal with the brackets
-4d+6+2d=-14
Next combine like terms
6+14=4d-2d (notice the sign changes as you cross the equal sign)
Next we simplify
20=2d
and finally divide both sides by two
20/2=d
or
10=d
Hope this helps!

-4d + 2(3+d) = -14, so
-4d + 6 + 2d = -14, so
-2d + 6 = -14, so
-2d = -14 - 6, so
-2d = -20, so
d = 10.
Hope this helps, Twiggy.
